The BAA recently descended on Toulouse for the 2026 International Romanesque Conference, Transmission, Reception and Imitation in Romanesque Art and Architecture. Across the week, members and speakers explored the movement of artistic ideas, materials, techniques, and iconographies across Romanesque Europe.
We are delighted to announce the release of ‘Revisiting the Cloisters Cross’. This is a collection of essays that offers new perspectives on the twelfth-century Romanesque ivory cross currently housed at the Cloisters Museum in New York.

The BAA’s December 2025 conference titled ‘Boundaries and Encounters in Medieval Art and Architecture’, honoring John McNeill, will feature a diverse program of over 30 speakers across ten themed panels.
We’re finalising details of the BAA Annual Lecture Series for October 2025 — May 2026.
The first lecture of 2025 will now take place on Monday, 6 January, when Dr Nicola Coldstream will give a talk entitled ‘Crowd-funding in the Architectural Patronage of Late Medieval English Merchants’. The lecture will be followed by the Association’s Twelfth-Night Party.
The 2025 conference will be held in Leicester from 21-25 July on the theme of ‘Leicester and Leicestershire: Roman and Medieval Architecture and Art‘. Booking forms will be available in February 2025. For enquiries contact Kate Milburn on conferences@thebaa.org
