After a full-time career as a consultant cardio-thoracic anaesthetist I decided to pursue a long-held interest in medieval architecture and history. To this end I have acquired a BA in (mostly medieval) History and a MA, and am now studying for a further MA in Medieval History in Bristol. My contribution to the BAA has mostly been to support efforts to increase the numbers of students involved in the Association by encouraging the provision of scholarships to the conferences and the setting up of study days directed principally at students.
